Amanda is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor. She began her career in 2010 working in the trauma and crisis field with families who were affected by abuse, neglect and/or violent crimes. Amanda worked closely with law enforcement, Child Protective Services, the District Attorney's office and Dell Children's Hospital. Amanda has worked with many populations of all socio-economic backgrounds and with clients with varied mental health needs. She has treated adults and adolescents, welcoming all ethnicities, orientations and affiliations. Amanda takes pride in her ability to work with diverse populations and meeting clients “where they are” in order to assist them in getting what they want out of the therapeutic process. She made the move to private practice in 2016 bringing her skills and experience into the Central Texas community. She works with clients from a strengths-based perspective; building on her clients’ abilities rather than focusing on weaknesses. Her training includes Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy & Solution Focused Therapy; which she incorporates using an eclectic approach to therapy utilizing her clients’ strengths and what works best for the individual. There is no “formula” in the therapeutic setting and Amanda prides herself on building rapport and an alliance to assist her clients in getting what they desire from the therapeutic process. Amanda is also a Board Approved Supervisor.
Amanda's practice also focuses on wellness for the helping professional. Many times those that "help" (law enforcement, CPS, therapists, EMT's, nurses, etc) may suffer from vicarious trauma, caregiver fatigue or burnout, and need assistance and support. Because of Amanda's previous work she understands the importance of self-care and wellness for the helping professional. The helping professional desires to provide care and compassion for others, that desire to help and provide emotional support can sometimes impact the individual. Amanda takes pride in her ability to assist those in the helping field in identifying their vulnerabilities and needs. Within the therapeutic relationship she works collaboratively with her clients to build and implement effective treatment plans.
Amanda is a strong ally within the LGBQIA+ community. She works with individuals and families from a LGBT Affirmative Therapy approach that embraces a positive view of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer identities and relationships and addresses the negative influence that homophobia, transphobia and herterosexism have on the lives of LGBQTIA+ clients.
